A California congressman says Alaska is violating federal law by hunting wolves from airborne vehicles. Alaska says they're not hunting, but trying to help control the population to boost moose and caribou numbers, and help rural villagers feed their families instead of rely on food that might spoil on the long trip out to the villages. Environmental hazard and animal cruelty, or humanitarian help according to the reality of life in Alaska? You decide.

The reconstruction exhibits information selected from the Flight Data Recorder, excerpts from the Cockpit Voice Recorder transcript, recorded radar data and aircraft performance data. This reconstruction does not depict the weather or visibility conditions at the time of the accident. The animation shows a three-dimensional model of the airplane and its motion. Selected comments from the Cockpit Voice Recorder transcript are superimposed as text at the time they occurred. The time of day (based on the FAA's Air Traffic Control radar data) and aircraft altitude in feet are depicted a...

R.I.P. Alaska 261 departed from Puerto Vallarta at 1:37 p.m. PST, and climbed to its intended cruising altitude of flight level 310 (31,000 ft). Approximately 2 hours into the flight, the flight crew, consisting of captain Ted Thompson and first officer William "Bill" Tansky, first contacted the airline's dispatch and maintenance control facilities in SeaTac, Washington, and on a shared company radio with operations and maintenance facilities at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) discussed a jammed horizontal stabilizer and a possible diversion to LAX. The jammed stabilizer prevented operation of the trim system, which normally would make slight adjustments to the flight control surfaces to keep the plane stable in flight. At their cruising altitude and speed the position of the ja...

It's not everyday you get a phone call saying there is an empty seat in a heli with your name on it, so when Lexi Dupont called up Colter Hinchliffe and I (Leo Ahrens) with that very offer, we didn't even think twice about pulling the trigger. Even if it did mean we only had 24 hours to travel 2000 + miles to Haines, Alaska. This wasn't your typical AK film trip by any means. We cycled our roll from athlete, to guide, to cinematographer in order to document this Alaskan cherry popping experience. Maybe not the preffered method of action but for us it was perfect. For us it was AK // OUR WAY http://dubsatch.com/ak-our-way-teaser/ Big shout out to SEABA Heli Operation for helping make this possible!! http://seaba-heli.com/ Athletes: Leo Ahrens, Colter Hinchliffe, Lexi Dupont Guide: Reg...
After unprecedented weather patterns in the Spring of 2014 and the tragic death of friend and mountain guide Aaron Karitis, the Stellar Media crew was forced to leave the dependable 'watering hole' of Haines, Alaska. "Canceling the season was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever made, but it's always important to follow your instincts." says Director of Photography, Will Wissman. Within 48 hours plans were altered to travel eastward to Iceland where the crew explored new terrain on the Troll Peninsula. Our herding nature led us to new adventures in Chile and the feeding frenzy of powder snow and in Japan. From the mountains to the ocean we continue to search for the right place at the right time. 12 months later Stellar Media is back in Alaska for the 2015 season. The past yea...
First attempt at a trailer for the video of "the long way to Bangkok." I decided to make a few trailers just to give me a chance to practice before I go ahead and make the real thing - and to check all my software and hardware can cope with the HD video content. I'm off to the countryside tomorrow to do some Muay Thai for a couple of weeks so won't have another chance to practice for a little while - but will get to work on some more light hearted trailers! I hope this trailer conveys some of the epic scenes we encountered on our journey to Bangkok. The map is a bit blurred I know...need to find a higher res map so If anyone has one... All video content straight from the camera - always learning new things about video...I already wish I had taken more footage and used a higher contrast ...

Caribou Bones (1995) A documentary by Paul Bonesteel “What is true wilderness? I don’t know if I‘ve ever really been there. But I do know that this trip seems to have a gravity all its own. There is something undefinable that has brought us here, to a river, two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle, where even the definition of wilderness is insignificant.” -Paul Bonesteel, from the film’s narration The story centers on the three Bonesteel’s excursion into the Brooks Range of Alaska, their unexpected separation, and their journey that unfolded through the mountains, tundra and rivers of Alaska's Gates of the Arctic National Park. Caribou Bones is an elaborate "home movie," with Paul utilizing the trip itself and his family's archive of super 8mm footage connect events from the pas...
